A new bridge in Hamburg
The Lotsekanal separates the Harburger Schlossinsel from Hamburg’s city center. To improve accessibility in both directions, the city administration decided to build a new swing bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across the 44-meter-wide channel. This project was chosen to become the official “test balloon” for Pasquick® technology as an innovative coatings system in the public sector.
Public accolades for Pasquick® technology
As a matter of principle, public authorities consider the introduction of innovative materials only if their successful performance has already been proven beyond any doubt. This is why extensive testing of Pasquick® under real-life conditions was conducted before it was given the green light for use on the Zitadellenbrücke (“Citadel Bridge”). After years of experience with the application in other fields of engineering, it became clear that Pasquick® would protect the structure just as thoroughly against corrosion damage as previous coating systems – and, thanks to one layer less, save costs for the public purse at the same time. Thus, the swing bridge across the Hamburg Lotsekanal became the very first application of Pasquick® in a public infrastructure project in Germany.
Bridging the gap to faster corrosion protection
The unique benefits of our solution were also confirmed by Dresdner Lackfabrik novatic GmbH & Co. KG., the manufacturer who provided the Pasquick®-based coating for the bridge: “The technology enabled a curing process that was four times faster than normal, resulting in a significant productivity boost.” On top of that, NE Sander Eisenbau GmbH, the company responsible for the steelwork engineering of the Zitadellenbrücke project, praised the good handling properties of the coating material without the need for new equipment or further training measures.
For years to come, the Zitadellenbrücke in Hamburg will demonstrate the capacity of Pasquick® within the world of corrosion protection.
